Dear Parents/Guardians of Academia Moderna,

It is with great Lion Pride and gratitude that you have chosen to bring your student to Academia Moderna Charter School. We are looking forward to having you be part of the Academia Moderna family for the 2019-2020 school year and beyond.

An as International Baccalaureate (IB) school, we believe in educating the whole child through an inquiry-based model that focuses on interdisciplinary themes embedded with character education (IB Learner Profile). The benefits of your student participation in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) are numerous. The PYP develops academic social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values. The Programme also fosters independent thinking skills encouraging students to take responsibility for their learning and actions. In addition, the Programme incorporates local and global issues into the standards-based curriculum through interdisciplinary themes.

Academia Moderna has a “culture of care” and implements Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS). Students are encouraged to reflect upon their behavior and problem solve their solutions to resolve conflicts. Positive behavior supports are for all students and are implemented in the classroom and non-classroom settings.

The Staff at Academia Moderna is diversified and has your child best interest at heart. Teachers receive professional development yearly in the IB-PYP Programme and collaborate daily on such topics as lesson planning, grouping students, and assessments. The T.A.’s work with students to provide targeted support on academics that include reading and math. The Yard Supervisors ensure that students are safe during recess and supports the main office. The main office has an office manager who ensures that daily operations of Academia Moderna run smoothly. Our maintenance team ensures that the facility is in good working order.

Some of our goals for the next year is to improve upon our implementation of the IB-PYP Programme, Level 1 of PBIS, and to continually examine our “best practices” to meet the needs of all our students.
